After marrying Mille, Joe goes to work for her father at his foot-glove mill. While giving his new son-in-law the full tour, grumpy old Mr.Liskusky uses the song, This Place Stinks to reveal his unhappy history, describe the pungent stench of the “Stink Tank” and informs Joe of just how miserable it is to work at The Liskusky Knitting Mill.
The pumping and churning of the machinery collaborates with the orchestra to create a machine-themed upbeat musical number. The employees march and dance to the rhythm as they work with yards and yards of yarn. By the end of the song the giant cacophony of tubes, pumps and other various machinery that fill the factory shake and grind until finally spitting out one multi-colored foot-glove.
