Rose Marie is in the bedroom of her mansion, wallowing in self-pity; thinking of the past. She rushes into her shoe closet (which is more like a shoe warehouse) to unpack several pairs of expensive new shoes, feeding her addiction to footwear. She’s trying to forget about the past… and present.
Her husband, Buzz, catches her in the act and berates her, telling her that he’s going to get rid of her shoe collection as soon as he returns from his safari. He leaves and Rose Marie sings the song Special Someone about her emptiness inside and her longing for that special someone to make her and her feet feel whole.
